LeBron James concluded his free agency journey last Friday with the announcement of his new team choice, the Philadelphia 76ers. This move ties James to a franchise celebrated for its impressive NBA legacy, boasting legends including Allen Iverson.
Allen Iverson shared his thoughts on James’ arrival during an appearance on “The Stephen A. Smith Show.” Iverson expressed delight, stating his excitement for Philadelphia, which he sees as home after 12 seasons with the team.
Just ecstatic, man. You know I’m just happy for the city of Philadelphia,” Iverson remarked. “For the team, you know what I mean? The type of player he is, the type of person he is. I’m just happy, man. He brings a lot, you know what I mean? He really is the answer.
James, after concluding his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, enters his 24th NBA season at 41 years old. His decision favored the 76ers over franchises such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors. He agreed to a two-year contract valued at $8 million, aligning him with a dynamic roster including Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe.
Iverson set high expectations, describing the situation as “championship or bust” with James joining the team.
He just boosts the percentage of any team having a chance to win a championship,” Iverson stated, adding, “He’s one of them ones, man. You know what I mean? He’s The King for a reason.
