Major League Baseball Trade Updates

The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies made significant trade moves as the baseball trade deadline approached. The Red Sox acquired three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, while the Phillies picked up three-time batting champion Luis Arraez. These transactions highlighted a day filled with numerous trades, with teams striving to strengthen their rosters.

Red Sox Acquire Catching Talent

Adley Rutschman, a former No. 1 overall pick from Oregon State, is now part of the Red Sox after five productive seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. Despite starting the season sluggishly, the Red Sox have been rejuvenated by a franchise record-tying 15-game winning streak in July. Rutschman, 28, is signed through the 2027 season and has shown improvement with a .762 OPS, earning another All-Star selection. He is currently on the injured list with left wrist inflammation but has also had ankle and concussion issues this year.

In the trade, the Red Sox also received catcher Jake Rogers and cash considerations. The Orioles gained catcher Carlos Narváez, promising pitching prospects Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon, minor league outfielder Enddy Azocar, and a player to be named later or cash.
