Ben Simmons Suggests NBA Return with Instagram Post

Ben Simmons, a former No. 1 draft pick, hinted at a possible return to the NBA through a post on Instagram. Attached to a shirtless photo on a basketball court, Simmons shared his thoughts: I wouldn’t change the story. He reflected on the highs, lows, pain, and lessons he has experienced, expressing gratitude for his journey.

In his post, Simmons emphasized the personal growth that resulted from different chapters of his career. Every chapter built something in me, he stated, highlighting his pride and readiness for future opportunities. His last stint was with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2024-25 season, where he participated in 17 games. Over 16.4 minutes per game, he averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

Known for being the first overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2016 NBA Draft, Simmons quickly made his mark in the league. He missed his initial season due to injury but returned strong to claim the 2018 Rookie of the Year. Philadelphia’s choice to draft him meant passing on other talented players like Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, and Jamal Murray—all of whom became All-Stars.

Brown and Murray have each secured an NBA championship with their respective teams. Murray’s win was in 2023 with the Denver Nuggets, while Brown achieved this feat in 2024 with the Boston Celtics, earning the NBA Finals MVP title. Interestingly, the 76ers recently acquired Brown in a major trade with the Celtics, a decade after passing on the opportunity to draft him.

Though Simmons hasn’t clinched a championship, his career highlights include being a three-time NBA All-Star and securing a spot in the NBA All-Defensive First Team twice. Although he played for the Clippers and earlier for the Brooklyn Nets, his most notable performances were with the 76ers.

After his time with the Clippers, Simmons became a free agent post-2024-25 season but didn’t join any teams last year. His recent Instagram activity suggests a desire to return, pending any team deciding on his potential contribution to their roster.
