Kevin Warsh Sworn In as Federal Reserve Chair Amid Inflation Concerns
Kevin Warsh assumed the role of Federal Reserve chair at a formal ceremony in the White House on May 22, 2026. The event marked a deviation from recent ceremonial traditions.
The swearing-in was overseen by U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, with the presence of President Donald Trump and Warsh’s wife, Jane Lauder. The ceremony took place in the East Room, signifying the importance of the occasion.
Warsh took over from Jerome Powell, who previously held the position for eight years. The new chair now faces significant challenges, notably the issue of increasing inflation affecting the American public. Inflation pressures have been exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in Iran, posing additional challenges for Warsh in his new role.
Several notable figures attended the event, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, and Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. Their attendance underscored the significance of this transition at the Federal Reserve amid pressing economic concerns.
