President Donald Trump has been working on a last-minute peace and denuclearization deal with Iran. Meanwhile, his inner circle at the White House has been criticizing some Republicans who they believe are interfering with these efforts.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo faced harsh criticism from several of Trump’s advisors. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung and other Trump aides, including Sebastian Gorka and Alex Bruesewitz, have been vocal on social media platform X.
“Mike Pompeo has no idea what the f— he’s talking about,” Cheung wrote on X. “He should shut his stupid mouth and leave the real work to the professionals. He’s not read into anything that’s happening, so how would he know.”
Pompeo expressed concerns that Trump’s potential deal could resemble policies from previous Administrations under Obama and Biden, which he believes capitulated to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Pompeo’s critical post described the anticipated deal with Iran as a repetition of past strategies, suggesting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) might be paid to establish weapons of mass destruction programs:
- “Open the damned strait.”
- “Deny Iran access to money.”
- “Take out enough Iranian capability so it cannot threaten our allies in the region.”
Gorka implied that if Pompeo knew any details of the secret negotiations, it would be illegal:
“You have no knowledge of what is being negotiated in secret,” Gorka wrote on X. “If you did, you would be in possession of information illegally provided to you and which you are wholly unauthorized to have or to share.”
Senator Marco Rubio also commented, dismissing the notion that Trump would concede to an agreement that might empower Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Rubio stressed the importance of diplomacy:
“The idea that somehow this president, given everything he’s already proven he’s willing to do, is going to somehow agree to a deal that ultimately winds up putting Iran in a stronger position when it comes to nuclear ambitions is absurd,” Rubio asserted.
As the dialogue on Trump’s peace initiatives continues, Senator Rand Paul urged critics to allow Trump to pursue negotiations:
“War virtually always ends with negotiations,” Paul noted. “Critics of President Trump’s peace negotiations should give President Trump the space to find an American First solution.”
Overall, Trump’s approach remains under scrutiny from various Republican figures, illustrating division within the party over responses to potential diplomatic outcomes.
