Fall Weddings and College Football: A Fan’s Perspective
As the heat of summer lingers with its weekend pool parties, the arrival of fall brings two significant events: the start of the college football season and a popular time for weddings. Fall offers moderate temperatures, scenic foliage, and great sunlight for photos, making it an attractive option for couples tying the knot.
For college football fans, fall weddings pose a conflict between weekend commitments and watching their favorite sport. This struggle has been a common experience among fans since the early days of college football. Recently, a portion of the fanbase has dismissed the “no fall weddings” stance as unnecessary, urging fans to prioritize their obligations over game days.
“This isn’t a bit, it’s a lifestyle.”
Personally, college football holds a special place in my heart. I understand and share the sentiment of those who prefer to avoid fall weddings. My spouse and I chose to wed in August, ensuring our marriage celebrations did not clash with the football season.
While I won’t discourage you from planning a fall wedding, I likely won’t attend. And if circumstances force me to, it won’t be by choice. I recall being dragged to an October wedding during a college game day in 2021. Florida lost to Kentucky at the reception, and my mood reflected that loss.
To those who argue for watching games on phones at weddings, consider this: it’s less polite than skipping the event. Watching Florida games requires the company of fellow fans or the comfort of home.
If you plan a fall wedding, others may have conflicting events like a Notre Dame and Miami matchup. Don’t be surprised if fans choose the game over the wedding. We’ll send a gift from the registry and enjoy an extra appetizer in honor of your celebration.
