Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have decided to return to the United Kingdom this fall for an extended stay. Although they will not resume their roles as working royals, their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are enrolled in British schools starting September.
The family will reside in a private, non-royal home outside London while maintaining residences in Montecito, California, and Portugal. While Harry expressed no comment to inquiries during a Washington event, Buckingham Palace keeps its stance of not commenting on non-working royal family matters.
Since moving to California more than six years ago, Harry and Meghan have relied on Netflix and Spotify contracts for their income. Lately, Harry has shown interest in repairing ties with his father, King Charles III, who faces undisclosed health issues.
Meghan will continue to oversee her As Ever company from the UK while Harry engages more with his UK-based charities. Their relationship with the royal family has been tense since leaving for California, especially following Harry’s memoir and the couple’s public critiques concerning the royal family’s handling of their issues.
Legal battles, including Harry’s struggle against tabloids accused of phone hacking, continue. A recent court ruling against Harry resulted in potential legal fees of millions. Additionally, Harry’s efforts to obtain police protection in the UK for his family, citing their royal status, failed last year.
Despite ongoing familial tensions, Harry expressed a desire for reconciliation, especially with King Charles III. Harry hopes to rebuild family ties, though relations with his brother, Prince William, remain strained. Harry’s presence in the UK might influence a deeper connection with his father while posing challenges for William regarding reconciliation.
