The current atmosphere surrounding LIV Golf isn’t filled with optimism. Bryson DeChambeau, however, is trying his best to lift the spirits of those involved. Recent announcements have shifted his approach.
In the wake of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) revealing that funding for LIV will cease after the 2026 season, DeChambeau’s response has been mixed. With the future of LIV uncertain, the two-time U.S. Open winner has mentioned shifting his focus to his YouTube channel, while maintaining a presence at major golf championships. He has also discussed potential challenges of returning to the PGA Tour, should an opportunity arise.
DeChambeau’s participation in an upcoming LIV event in Korea – where he is the defending champion – underscores his commitment to the circuit and its prospects.
“We were surprised that they pulled out as quickly as they did,” DeChambeau said, referring to the PIF’s decision. “We didn’t really see that coming. But that’s okay. One door closes, another opens.”
DeChambeau expressed confidence in the potential business model for team golf.
“I think we all have optimism that there is a business plan that makes sense for team golf. I’m very optimistic with the business plan of team golf compared to other models,” he mentioned.
Behind the scenes, DeChambeau is actively contributing to secure a viable path forward for LIV Golf.
“We’ll see if investors like it or not. I’m giving all I can to make it happen, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t happen,” DeChambeau explained.
Recent reports suggest LIV Golf is pitching a new plan centered on a global 10-event schedule. The 2026 schedule includes 12 events. The league is searching for $250 million to $350 million for continuing operations, with hopes of turning a profit within three years.
Mark Harris, a writer for OutKick, reported these developments.
