Lily Tang Williams Wins New Hampshire Republican Primary
Businesswoman Lily Tang Williams has claimed victory in the Republican primary for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. Her win comes against three other Republican contenders. The district spans the entire western part of the state from north to south.
Tang Williams was the 2024 nominee for the seat and is from the town of Weare. She is an entrepreneur and co-chair of the New Hampshire Asian American Coalition. Tang Williams stood out in the race due to her significant fundraising success, collecting nearly $1.2 million. Her nearest competitor, Victor Orlando, raised $175,000.
As a Chinese immigrant, Tang Williams describes herself as a survivor of communism. In an April interview with WMUR, she presented herself as “open-minded” and “independent.” She indicated her readiness to oppose former President Donald Trump when she deems it suitable for her constituents.
In addressing the conflict in Iran, she criticized oppressive regimes and expressed a desire for Trump to present a plan to end the conflict and achieve peace. Tang Williams also criticized politicians who she believes exploit their positions for personal gain.
Tang Williams formerly served as the chair of the state’s Libertarian Party. The other candidates in the race, Dan Nicholson and Michael Anthony Callis, garnered only small percentages of the vote.
New Hampshire, traditionally a Democratic stronghold with only one other congressional district, is a challenging terrain for Republicans. Tang Williams, during her 2024 campaign, earned 47% of the vote.
Currently, the district is represented by Democrat Rep. Maggie Goodlander. This primary outcome signifies a notable step for Tang Williams in her political journey.
