Ty Kennedy, a junior tight end who transferred from Crown Point in Indiana, has smoothly integrated himself into the Mount Carmel football team. The team was already filled with talented players, yet Kennedy managed to establish his role effectively. His adjustment to a new team, school, and state has been notably seamless.
“I wouldn’t say it was hard at all,” Kennedy commented. “The culture here requires you to buy into it. This place is phenomenal. I couldn’t ask for anything better regarding teammates or coaches. Coach Jordan Lynch clearly stands out as an offensive strategist. My teammates are just amazing.”
Kennedy is proving himself as a valuable asset for the Caravan. In a recent game, he made four successful catches totaling 66 yards and scored two touchdowns. This performance contributed to Mount Carmel’s decisive 56-26 victory over Marist in Chicago. Brady Cloherty showcased his skills by completing 18 out of 33 passes for 295 yards and five touchdowns. The team scored 28 points in the last eight minutes after Marist closed the gap to 28-20.
“We aimed for a fast start but didn’t quite achieve it initially. However, once coach Lynch motivated us, we began scoring effectively,” Cloherty said.
Marshaun Thornton made an impressive contribution with four catches, gaining 139 yards and two touchdowns. Nathan Samuels, a Lindenwood recruit, ran for 112 yards and scored a touchdown with his 10 carries. Jake Fleming of Marist completed 14 out of 34 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Nick Mayoski had a 16-yard touchdown catch and also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Conor Fleming. JJ Nash ended with four catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Throughout the game, Kennedy proved himself a central target for Cloherty. Kennedy caught touchdown passes of 22 and 16 yards in the second quarter, helping the Caravan secure a 28-7 lead by halftime.
“It’s great,” Kennedy remarked. “I feel fully integrated into the offense now. My teammates trust me, and I trust them. It’s wonderful being part of the Caravan. I love it.”
Cloherty and Kennedy both transferred into Mount Carmel this year, enabling them to navigate the transition together. This shared experience quickly forged a strong connection between them.
“As soon as he arrived, Ty was eager to learn the offense. I was learning too, so we collaborated daily to understand the system, run routes, and build chemistry,” Cloherty stated. “Ty excels in both blocking and receiving. He consistently catches the ball.”
Kennedy is a versatile athlete, participating in basketball and lacrosse. He believes these sports benefit his football skills.
“In lacrosse, I play as a midfielder, which helps me move freely in football,” Kennedy explained. “Basketball enhances my athleticism. Each sport complements the others. I plan to continue all three as long as possible. My dad often says that whatever season I’m participating in becomes my favorite. With football ongoing, it’s tough not to love it.”
Coach Lynch appreciates Kennedy’s contribution, which challenges opposing defenses.
“It’s an additional option for us,” Lynch observed. “We’re integrating him gradually as he learns the system, showing improvement each week. He is a diligent player and made impressive catches during the recent game.”
Kennedy is drawing interest from college coaches. He intends to visit Illinois for their upcoming game against Duke and plans another visit to Northwestern soon.
“It’s thrilling,” Kennedy said. “I am living the dream.”
