Utah AMBER Alert Issued for Two Missing Toddlers Amid Custody Crisis
Two young children in Utah are missing and believed to be in serious danger after their father, described as “seriously depressed,” failed to attend a scheduled custody exchange. Authorities have issued an AMBER Alert for the toddlers, Will Richman (22 months old) and Wesley Richman (10 months old), in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
The alert was activated on Saturday, May 16, following an urgent call from the children’s mother when the father did not return the children. A relative expressed in social media that the situation is dire and appealed for help and prayers for the children’s safe return.
Please, we need your help and prayers for these boys.
The Utah Department of Public Safety characterized the father, 6-foot-2 Dane Stephen Richman, as financially stressed and having sold many of his belongings. Additionally, he has left his residence, contributing to the heightened concern about the wellbeing of his children. Law enforcement identified him as a suspect after he missed a critical legal deposition related to the ongoing custody battle.
The AMBER Alert outlined descriptions of the individuals involved: Dane has brown hair and green eyes, while Will and Wesley have blonde hair and blue eyes. The children are believed to be in a Black Toyota Camry that bears a Utah license plate, A561HL. However, officials caution that the car might display a temporary tag, making identification challenging.
Kate Walters, a family member, took to social media to share her distress, urging for public assistance in this matter. She stated the urgency of locating her sister’s abducted children.
An AMBER Alert, which stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, serves as a critical tool in child abduction emergencies. When law enforcement confirms an abduction involving a child under 17 years old that meets specific criteria, they initiate this alert system. The process disseminates critical information about the child, abductor, and potential vehicle across multiple platforms, including broadcasts and digital signage.
The system has been instrumental in the recovery of over 1,000 children in the United States since its establishment. The core purpose of the AMBER Alert is to engage the public quickly to aid in the early hours following an abduction. This immediate response is pivotal for law enforcement to enhance efforts in locating missing children and apprehending suspects. Emphasizing the time-sensitive nature of these alerts, officials aim to act swiftly to improve the likelihood of safe child recovery within crucial hours after the incident.
