The national anthem performance before the Monday Night Football game featuring the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles was eventful. The unusual behavior of Caleb Williams garnered attention.
Mariachi Herencia de México, a Mexican mariachi band, played the “Star-Spangled Banner”. While most stood along the sidelines, observing the anthem, Williams was an exception. He was seen pacing along the Bears sideline, drawing curiosity.
Williams, not participating in the game due to a hamstring strain from a previous game against the Minnesota Vikings, appeared to be walking without urgency. The injury initially caused concern but an MRI revealed a strain without a tear.
“The national anthem Code of Conduct, available online, advises standing at attention, facing the flag with the right hand over the heart,” it states.
This has been in place since 1942 and was amended in 1976 to include specific instructions regarding headdress. This traditional guideline for Americans has been the standard for many years.
Williams, seen last season attempting to chat during the anthem, might not be fully aware of these traditions. The current education system often does not emphasize these values.
Opinions on his actions are divided. Some view this as disrespectful, while others consider it negligible or simply an oversight. Yet, his presence on the field remains a primary concern for many fans.
