During a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, President Donald Trump mentioned Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. He described her as “beautiful” and commented that many men are interested in watching her play.
Trump noted the political risks of his comments, saying, “You’re not allowed to say that anymore, however, as a politician. Please, please, let me take it back. Anytime a politician says a woman is beautiful, that’s generally the end of his political career in the modern-day politic world.”
Trump suggested Cunningham’s presence on a team could boost attendance, stating, “Sophie is a beautiful young woman. You probably wouldn’t mind her on the team, not to help you with points, but to help you with attendance. The attendance would be great.”
Sophie Cunningham has been popular among fans since joining the Fever, particularly for defending Caitlin Clark against hard fouls. Her popularity grew after a statement she made about biological males in women’s sports was publicized.
Sophie Cunningham expressed, “I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.” She emphasized the importance of protecting young girls in sports.
Cunningham’s jersey is highly popular, ranking as the top jersey on Fanatics for WNBA fans.
