Neil Bush, brother of former President George W. Bush, announced his support for Democratic candidate James Talarico in the Texas Senate race. He criticized President Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, labeling them a threat to democratic institutions.
In a Facebook post, Bush shared, “Today, I voted early for James Talarico for the United States Senate.” His decision marks a departure from traditional party lines, prioritizing character over political affiliation.
The businessman emphasized his concerns with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s attempts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results across states. He said these actions compromised the peaceful transfer of power essential to democracy.
Talarico’s campaign is gaining momentum. Polls suggest he has a slight lead over Paxton in the crucial Senate contest, potentially altering party control.
“He speaks with respect, seeks common ground, and seems genuinely interested in bringing people together,” Bush wrote about Talarico.
Bush highlighted Paxton’s impeachment and acquittal but clarified his vote was driven by larger concerns.
Despite not meeting Talarico, Bush praised his approach to complex issues and noted qualities he admires in public servants: integrity, civility, and listening skills.
“I voted against a style of politics that I believe has damaged our country,” he concluded, expressing hope for healing leadership.
