Vice President JD Vance has opted not to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection. Despite President Donald Trump’s support for the Israeli leader, Vance maintains a focus on U.S. candidates as the midterms approach, as reported by Politico.
Vance discussed this decision with Mark Halperin on “2WAY Tonight,” emphasizing his attention remains on American elections. “The president has the most effective endorsement in American or international political history,” Vance stated. “I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on in the midterms. So I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.”
Vance clarified that his neutrality should not be interpreted as opposition to Netanyahu. “I’m not anti-endorsing him. I’m not pro-endorsing him. I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections,” he added.
These remarks follow President Trump’s “Complete and Total Endorsement” of Netanyahu through a Truth Social post. Trump praised Netanyahu as a vital ally, particularly in confronting Iran. “Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump expressed.
The former president also highlighted Netanyahu’s resilience under political pressure. “Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel. BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump declared.
Netanyahu appreciated President Trump’s backing, expressing gratitude for the endorsement. “President Trump, my friend Donald — thank you for your extraordinary endorsement,” Netanyahu responded. He affirmed the strong alliance and mutual efforts to prevent Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Vance’s decision to remain neutral in Israel’s election follows his involvement in another international political race earlier this year. He campaigned alongside Hungary’s then-Prime Minister Viktor Orban in April, prior to Orban’s election loss. The White House was unavailable for immediate comment.
