Selena Gomez has shared her experience with nicotine addiction, particularly its impact on her voice. At 34, Gomez admitted that vaping nicotine has permanently altered her voice, a change she highlights as a warning to her followers.
In a video posted to her Instagram Story, Gomez stated, “I’m not going to be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine, a lot.” She emphasized the challenges of quitting nicotine and urged fans considering vaping to rethink their choice.
“Everyone knows, nicotine is so hard to quit. If you’re trying or thinking about it, it’s just not worth it,” Gomez advised. “It’s changed my voice. If you don’t like listening, just don’t.”
Despite these changes, Gomez remains optimistic about her decision to quit vaping. She encourages others struggling with similar addictions, saying, “I am excited because I stopped, and I just hope we can keep it up. It’s really hard, but I know you can get through it too.”
Gomez has openly shared her health challenges over the years. She entered a mental health facility in 2014 after her lupus diagnosis and later disclosed her bipolar disorder diagnosis. Her personal battles include public heartbreaks and medical issues like a kidney transplant and chemotherapy.
In a 2021 interview with Elle magazine, Gomez reflected on these experiences, acknowledging that any of them could have overwhelmed her. Yet, she remains resilient, sharing her story to support others.
Her documentary “My Mind & Me” released in 2022, exploring six years of her life and career intertwined with her mental health journey.
Gomez, known for her role on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” extends her mental health advocacy into her business ventures. In 2020, she launched Rare Beauty to create a welcoming space beyond beauty. Through the Rare Impact Fund, the brand contributes to mental health services.
