On Sunday night, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce added another milestone to his impressive NFL career. This occurred in a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, resulting in a 20-3 defeat for the Chiefs, marking their first loss of the 2026 season.
The Chiefs’ offense struggled, with no standout performances compared to previous games. Kelce, although only catching four passes for 44 yards, achieved something significant for his career.
With his 1,103rd career reception, Kelce overtook Chris Carter and Marvin Harrison, securing the fifth spot on the NFL’s all-time receptions list. This historical reception occurred in the fourth quarter when his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, delivered a 19-yard pass, marking Kelce’s longest catch of the night. Kelce celebrated this achievement with a fist pump.
Currently, Kelce trails four players on the all-time receptions list: Jerry Rice (1,549), Larry Fitzgerald (1,432), Tony Gonzalez (1,325), and Jason Witten (1,228). He needs 446 more receptions to match Rice’s record. Over his 12-season career, Kelce has averaged 90 receptions annually, suggesting that reaching Rice’s total remains unlikely. However, he may approach Witten’s tally.
In addition to surpassing reception milestones, Kelce set another record on Sunday. He now holds the title for the most receiving yards by a tight end, totaling 15,420 yards, according to Underdog. This includes both regular season and playoff games. He outpaced former Chiefs star Tony Gonzalez, who held 15,413 yards. With 11 weeks remaining in the season, Kelce’s yardage total will likely continue to grow, further cementing his record.
