A former FBI special agent suggests that a truck abandoned by an escaped convict in Tennessee could provide vital clues for authorities. Jacob Allen Morley, who escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex, remains at large. The prison staff noticed Morley’s absence at around 11:30 p.m., with surveillance footage showing him leaving through the prison’s perimeter fence.
Authorities report that Morley took a pickup truck from the 400 block of Keystone Drive, about two miles from the prison, at 1 a.m. on Monday. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirms that the vehicle was located abandoned in Marion, Illinois, but Morley has not been found.
Efforts to recapture Morley involve multiple agencies. The Illinois State Police have offered assistance, and the U.S. Marshals Service is involved in the search.
Surveillance footage recorded Morley before his escape from the correctional facility, capturing him breaching the prison’s perimeter. The Tennessee Department of Correction released the footage detailing the escape.
Retired FBI Special Agent Jonathan Gilliam mentioned that the abandoned work truck is a significant hint. He suspects Morley might have changed vehicles to one less identifiable. Gilliam explains that moving in a less conspicuous vehicle could vastly broaden Morley’s potential escape area.
Morley’s limited resources could restrict his travel unless he commits additional crimes. Gilliam claims Morley’s movements hint at an attempt to distance himself from familiar areas, speculating that he seeks to move away from familiar resources in the east.
Morley, serving a life sentence for the 2022 murder of Cody Birchfield, was also convicted of burglary, vandalism, tampering with evidence, and evading arrest. He stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 240 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes. Authorities have classified him as dangerous, and he now features on Tennessee’s most wanted list.
Birchfield’s disappearance in February 2022, followed by Morley’s arrest after a police chase, revealed the gravity of the crimes. Birchfield’s body was discovered under Morley’s residence, as confirmed by the arrest.
Officials urge individuals with information to call 844-832-3463. The case continues to receive significant attention from federal and state law enforcement. People can reach out with tips to [email protected] or on Twitter @asabes10.
