The Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced a significant discovery regarding illegal voting activities in Washington state. More than 400 noncitizens have been found to be illegally registered to vote in the state, with some having participated in multiple elections over several decades. According to information from the U.S. attorney’s offices, many of these individuals are green card holders with legal immigration status and permanent residency.
Neil Floyd, acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington, stated, “We have identified over 400 noncitizens who are registered to vote and have voted in multiple elections. We will continue to investigate and identify those committing crimes by voting illegally.”
The DOJ’s initiative is part of broader legal actions, including efforts in Los Angeles County where approximately 20,000 mail-in ballots have been scrutinized due to questionable citizenship statuses. Immigration officials have also reported arrests across the nation as part of a voter fraud crackdown.
Floyd revealed that investigators utilized U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) records to identify noncitizen voters, with some individuals having voted up to 27 times. The investigation found around 1,500 cases of noncitizens casting ballots, some dating back to 1984, predating Washington’s vote-by-mail transition.
There is concern that the identified noncitizen voters may represent only a fraction of a larger issue. Many individuals were inadvertently registered to vote through Washington’s Motor Voter program, which automatically integrates voter registration with the state’s Department of Licensing.
“We have heard from green card holders who were registered against their knowledge via the Washington Motor Voter program,” officials noted. “Then they receive a ballot in the mail and assume they are legally registered — that simply is not the case.”
Federal officials are urging Washington state to set aside ballots cast by these individuals until citizenship statuses are confirmed. The DOJ has emphasized that voting as a noncitizen can lead to severe consequences, including criminal charges and complications in the naturalization process.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported that numerous illegal aliens have admitted to unlawfully registering to vote or casting ballots in U.S. elections. Of the dozens arrested, at least 18 had voted in a federal election, coming from diverse countries such as Mexico, Somalia, and Germany, among others.
Those involved also face charges for various alleged crimes, including fraud, kidnapping, sexual offenses, and drug possession.
