Madison Square Garden was filled with excitement as the first NBA Finals game in New York since 1999 took place. The New York Knicks had a commanding 2-0 series lead against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs entered with a mission to avoid a 3-0 deficit.
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama played an exceptional game to keep the Spurs’ hopes alive. As the newly crowned NBA Defensive Player of the Year, he scored 32 points, shot 11-for-18 from the floor, and added eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals in the Spurs’ 115-111 victory on Monday night.
After the game, Wembanyama initially skipped his postgame interview with Lisa Salters, perhaps unintentionally. When he re-emerged on the court, he praised his teammates and acknowledged that tougher challenges lie ahead. Notably, during the interview with Salters, Wembanyama’s towering 7-foot-4 height made Salters almost invisible in the video frame.
You can’t see Salters in the frame due to Wembanyama’s 7-foot-4 frame, observed fans, poking fun at the height difference.
Social media users quickly turned the moment into a viral sensation. One fan humorously commented, “sis got her arm up like the statue of liberty and it’s still three feet below his mouth lololol.” Another added, “Hilarious. Someone get this woman a stool or something 🤣.”
Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox also caught attention by urging Wembanyama to wrap up the interview, saying, “It’s midnight, man, let’s go!” This comment sheds light on Wembanyama’s disciplined routine, as previously revealed by Fox during NBC’s “NBA Showtime” postgame broadcast.
Fox explained, “Everything you hear about Vic is true. He avoids blue light after 9 o’clock. He reads books and stays off his phone.” He added, “When games end around midnight, he wears blue light glasses to prepare for recovery. He’s 22 years old, committed to his craft, showing immense dedication to his physical well-being.”
The Spurs need all of Wembanyama’s dedication and focus to capture the NBA Championship at the end of the 2026 Finals. Ending the Knicks’ winning streak since April 23 was a necessary first step. The Spurs aim to level the series in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
