Trump and Stephen A. Smith Clash Over Knicks Game Attendance
President Donald Trump recently criticized ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith after Smith commented negatively on Trump’s attendance at a New York Knicks NBA Finals game. Smith argued that Trump’s presence would negatively impact NBA fans and the city.
When questioned by Fox News Digital about Smith’s remarks, Trump doubted Smith’s capability to run for public office, suggesting he lacked the necessary intelligence. On his Truth Social account, Trump further attacked Smith, calling him an ‘arrogant fool’ and ‘dumb as a rock.’
Stephen A. Smith, known for his role on ESPN’s ‘First Take,’ continued to criticize Trump both on the show and through his podcast, questioning Trump’s policies on America First, affordability issues, and involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts.
Smith clarified his critique by stating his disapproval was solely related to Trump’s attendance at the game, not broader political matters. He expressed that Trump’s presence at the game resulted in inconvenience, affecting thousands of fans participating in watch parties outside Madison Square Garden.
Smith, who has hinted at a possible future presidential run, argued that Trump’s actions displayed a lack of consideration for others, adding that as a New York native, Trump should have been more aware of the situation.
The Knicks were scheduled to play the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, holding a 2-1 series lead. Ryan Gaydos, a senior editor, reported on the incident for Fox News Digital.
