ESPN broadcaster Monica McNutt became a subject of discussion following a hot mic incident during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. In the broadcast, she criticized Taylor Swift, accusing her of bandwagoning the New York Knicks. McNutt referred to Swift’s presence, saying, “Is that Taylor Swift? She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl.” This moment quickly gained attention among fans.
Swift’s fans, known for their strong loyalty, found McNutt’s remarks unfounded. Although McNutt accused Swift of not being a Knicks fan, Swift has a history of attending Knicks games, starting back in 2014, even during less successful seasons.
OutKick reached out to McNutt to clarify her comments about Swift, but as of now, she has not responded. However, she did address the situation with TMZ. McNutt acknowledged her mistake, saying, “Swifties, I appreciate your passion. I said what I said and here’s the deal, if I’m wrong, and I am wrong apparently because we’ve got an OG Amar’e Stoudemire jersey. I misspoke. I apologize.”
This incident highlighted McNutt’s apparent criticism of Swift. It also brought up her past remarks about Caitlin Clark, a basketball star. McNutt previously suggested that Clark’s appeal among young White girls might be racially motivated.
At the same time, questions arose about whether young Black girls supporting athletes like Serena Williams also reflects racial bias, or if it is simply admiration for a prominent athlete.
Additionally, McNutt came under scrutiny during a segment of “First Take” on ESPN last summer when she didn’t recognize NFL legend Barry Sanders. This moment added another layer to the public’s scrutiny of her comments.
