Lauren Silverman Reflects on Pregnancy and Media Storm

Simon Cowell’s fiancée, Lauren Silverman, shared insights on her experience of discovering her pregnancy with Cowell’s child while being married to another man. In an interview on ‘Happy Mum: The Podcast,’ the 48-year-old discussed the conclusion of her marriage to businessman Andrew Silverman.

Silverman found out she was expecting her now 12-year-old son, Eric, with Cowell during her marriage to Andrew Silverman. She expressed the complexity of emotions surrounding the end of her marriage, stating, ‘There are so many emotions that went with that, because it was the end of my marriage, obviously.’ She acknowledged the difficulties faced, revealing, ‘It was one of the hardest times of my life. Do I wish it had happened a different way? Of course I do.’

In 2013, Cowell and Silverman publicly announced their relationship following news of her pregnancy. The media frenzy that ensued led her husband to file a divorce shortly after. Reflecting on the discovery of her pregnancy, Silverman said finding out she was pregnant with Cowell’s child while married to another man brought numerous challenges.

Silverman shared her desire to alleviate the pain and hurt caused by her actions, especially to her ex-husband and their son, Adam. The widespread coverage by news outlets made it challenging for Silverman to enjoy her pregnancy. Her main priority was to protect her son Adam, saying, ‘I was just so in fight or flight. I was just trying to get through it and just try to wake up every day and not fall apart because it was intense.’

Despite the backlash from the public, Silverman recognized Cowell as the person she wanted to spend her life with, affirming, ‘However we got there, I just believed that it was meant to be.’ She reflected on understanding people’s perceptions and admitted she doesn’t ‘blame them’ for their judgments. Silverman stated, ‘I felt like, ‘OK, this has happened. I’m a big girl.’ I’ve got to suck it up and get on with it. And whatever’s coming at me, I deserve it, I’ll take it and I’ll just keep my head down.’

Twelve years later, Silverman feels she has ‘done the work on myself’ to forgive her past mistakes. She remarked, ‘I have done whatever I feel I need to do to make peace with the situation. So now I feel like whatever I put out there and whatever people are saying or thinking, it’s too bad. I don’t really care anymore.’

Eric was born in February 2014, and Cowell and Silverman have been together since the scandal emerged. Becoming a dad, according to Silverman, ‘completely changed his life.’ In Cowell’s words, shared in ‘The Diary Of A CEO’ podcast in June 2024, he reflected on the life-altering effect of his son’s birth, stating, ‘When I got the call from Lauren, which starts, any call that starts with, ‘Are you sitting down?’ You know what‘s coming next.’ The call changed everything for Cowell, affirming, ‘It did absolutely change, it changed everything in my life. It made me happy again.’

Cowell confirmed that his son Eric ‘saved him’ during a low point in his life, mentioning, ‘Without question, without question. I really, really had reached the point where nothing mattered. Even to the point that I almost can’t remember everything from that period.’
