Ashley Dupré has come to terms with her past and is no longer running from it. Known as Alix Earle’s stepmother, Ashley once found herself at the center of tabloid headlines due to her involvement in the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal and an affair with Alix’s married father. Alix, who gained fame on TikTok at 25, has become popular for sharing snippets of her life, including her family’s complex history.
In 2008, Ashley was thrust into the national spotlight as the escort linked to then-New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, a scandal that led to his resignation. In an essay for Elle, she wrote about being approached at 19 by a man offering her $1,000 an hour to date high-profile men. Initially, she declined but later made the fateful call, driven by a desire for money and independence.
“Context isn’t absolution. I made choices. Some were reckless,” she wrote. “Some were selfish. They had consequences. I can own all of that,” Ashley stated.
She continued working discreetly until she was 22 when the FBI revealed her client’s identity as the governor of New York. This revelation led to her unwanted fame, with her stage name and photos splashed across newspapers.
Reflecting on the past, Ashley emphasizes that while her decisions were flawed, they don’t define her entirety. Her affair with TJ Earle, which started in 2008, added to the media frenzy. Ashley and TJ later married in 2013.
Alix was a child when her family’s private struggles became public. She recalls being unaware of the paparazzi’s presence and later discovering the scandal’s impact. The affair affected family life, with friends’ parents hesitant to allow visits to Alix’s home.
Ashley acknowledges the hurt caused to TJ’s family, including his wife and daughters. Despite the rocky start, she became an integral part of the Earle family over time. Two decades later, Ashley is more focused on her personal integrity and the relationships she’s built.
“Twenty years ago, I wanted everyone to understand me. Today, I don’t,” she reflects. “The people sitting around my dinner table know who I am. So do I.”
Ashley embraces her past without shame, recognizing the youthful mistakes and accepting that they are a part of her history. She advocates for personal growth and the capacity for change beyond one’s worst moments.
