A 22-year-old man, arrested in London on suspicion of a terror offense, has been released on bail, according to British counterterrorism police. The man, a British national, was detained earlier this week in the Westminster area of central London under suspicion of preparing terrorist acts pursuant to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. He is the seventh individual apprehended concerning a security incident linked to RAF Fairford, which authorities associate with Iran.
All seven men, now released on police bail, are subject to strict conditions as specialist teams continue their investigations. British police are urging anyone with information about the incident to share it with them. The initial six suspects’ release drew criticism from President Trump, who suggested Iranian involvement and stated that U.S. and British authorities were working closely together. On September 28, he remarked, “We would not have released them.”
A decision to release these suspects was made despite President Trump’s disapproval, reflecting ongoing international tensions.
Security measures at RAF Fairford were heightened after a significant incident occurred near the air base. On October 1, 2026, concrete blocks were placed near its main gate to enhance security. The base, located about 100 miles west of London, became the focus of action on September 27. Armed police and bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the area, leading to the evacuation of residents near the base. Subsequently, police disclosed that gasoline was discovered in vans linked to the first five suspects, but no explosives were present.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham mentioned “strong indications” of Iran’s involvement in the incident, yet he did not elaborate on the specifics of the supposed plot. Despite denying involvement, Iran has previously stated that any base used to attack its territory is a legitimate target. The U.S. relocated its B-52 and B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford on Sunday, though it remains uncertain if this move correlated with the arrests.
On Monday, President Trump commented on the decision to move the bombers, explaining, “We had a threat, and if we’re going to be threatened, we would just move them. It sort of alleviates that.” He implied links to Iran without providing further details.
