A new water ride, Rip Roarin’ Falls, is set to open at Carowinds in 2027, generating interest among theme park enthusiasts. The ride will replace Rip Roarin’ Rapids, which closed in 2019. Located on the North Carolina-South Carolina border, Carowinds promises a ride featuring a 100-foot drop, the tallest for a water ride or log flume.
The attraction also boasts the tallest reverse drop and reverse camelback drop in its category. Riders will experience this adventure in eight-person boats through a theme of an abandoned lumber mill. Notably, the ride will send passengers backward down a 42-foot drop before they climb to the final plunge.
The track extends over 2,240 feet, reaching speeds up to 50 mph. Carowinds highlighted two high-speed reversing switches that send riders forward and backward during the journey. The backstory involves a deserted logging operation in Carolina woods, rumored to have ongoing mysterious activities.
The ride is designed for a wide audience, with minimum height requirements set at 35 inches for children with adults, and 41 inches for solo riders. Online reactions have been positive, with excitement over unique features like the backward camelback drop. Some fans even see it as a reason to travel to the park.
Despite the enthusiasm, some potential visitors are concerned about its height possibly intimidating younger guests. The ride is scheduled to open in the 2027 season. Carowinds is part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which operates 34 theme and water parks in North America.
