The Carpentersville area will mark the country’s 250th anniversary with a series of events this weekend, including a blues festival, parade, fireworks, and car show.
Duke’s Blues N’ BBQ Festival
The festivities begin Friday with Duke’s Blues N’ BBQ Festival at Carpenter Park. Hosted by Terrance “Duke” Seward and the Taste The Love nonprofit, this event returns after a break during the COVID-19 pandemic. Running since 2016, the festival will feature Carlisle Guy and the NuBlu Band, with Carlisle being the daughter of Buddy Guy. The performances span three days with 16 bands, starting from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, and continuing 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. The event concludes on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an auto show and other activities.
Seward emphasized the importance of his team, led by his wife Rhiannon. Various food vendors, such as Seward’s barbecue restaurant and Taqueria El Tio Ramos, will be present.
Independence Day Parade and Celebrations
Carpentersville’s Independence Day parade will commence at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27. Due to construction near village hall, the parade will follow a new route around Carpenter Park. This path focuses on residential neighborhoods to enhance the viewing experience, as explained by Jen Hyde, the event coordinator. Attendees can join Duke’s Blues Fest following the parade at the Carpenter Park band shell.
The parade will showcase around 50 entries, including groups like Fox Valley Flourish Twirling Club and River City Rhythm Drum Line, making its debut appearance.
Evening Celebrations and Fireworks
The Dundee Township Park District will host its celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday at Meadowdale Park and Shopping Center. Organized by park district officials and Village President John Skillman, the event aligns with Duke’s Fest. Last year, attendees enjoyed seeing fireworks at the park while music played in the background.
Due to road construction along Besinger Drive, parking access and traffic flow will be different, informed Katie Keller, park district superintendent of marketing and communications. Attendees are advised to park at the Meadowdale Shopping Center lot for easier access through a walking path to the event field near Carpentersville Village Hall.
The event will feature vendors such as Kona Ice and the Lions Club. Entertainment includes a DJ and children’s climbing tree, with fireworks planned for 9:30 p.m.
Weekend Finale
The weekend concludes on Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a car show and performances. A band from Dundee Middle School will perform, and souvenir T-shirts with a theme celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence will be available.
The celebrations bring the community together, providing activities and entertainment for all ages.
