Comedian Jamie Kennedy expressed his love for Los Angeles while voicing concerns about Hollywood’s current state. He believes that originality and the mystique of movie stars have been replaced by ideologies and influencers. Despite these changes, Kennedy remains committed to show business. According to him, comedy can still salvage an industry that has lost confidence.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, the ‘Scream’ star shared his views on the modern media landscape. He sees a return to balance for Hollywood, especially within comedy. “A laugh is a laugh,” Kennedy remarked, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the comedy community, bringing together people of different political views, backgrounds, and identities.
Kennedy praised fellow comedian Margaret Cho, describing her as politically different from him yet humorous and open-minded. Actors and others outside comedy sometimes struggle to coexist, he noted, due to the reluctance to accept differing opinions.
Reflecting on the trend of “wokeness,” Kennedy believes audiences seek a return to bold, impactful comedy. He recalled his 2003 film “Malibu’s Most Wanted” and suggested that something similar could and should be created today. Acknowledging a shift in public tolerance over the last decade, he anticipates a revival of comedy that challenges societal norms.
Kennedy criticized Hollywood’s engagement with social media and the rise of influencers. He suggested that attention-grabbing influencers often lack genuine talent, comparing them to a glorified commercial network. He urged transparency among influencers, differentiating authentic creativity from superficial popularity.
Discussing his absence from the “Scream 7” premiere, Kennedy brushed aside fan concerns, explaining that his character was killed off earlier in the franchise. He expressed admiration for the new cast members and appreciated his ongoing connection to the series.
Despite his critiques, Kennedy remains optimistic about Los Angeles. He values California’s significance and dislikes the trend of productions moving overseas due to high costs. Investing in his new West Hollywood home as a studio, Kennedy plans to continue creating content independently.
He highlighted his recent involvement in the independent comedy “Wingman,” directed by Harland Williams. The film, which will debut on Apple TV, reflects his preference for projects outside the traditional studio system. Kennedy also engages with local politics, supporting Spencer Pratt’s mayoral campaign and critiquing recent AC unit regulations.
Jamie Kennedy’s commitment to Los Angeles and Hollywood is unwavering. “I’ll never leave,” he stated, underscoring his dedication to both his career and his home.
