Elgin Artist’s Contribution to Cancer Center Event

Asia Bell, residing in Elgin, contributed to the City of Hope Cancer Center’s “Artistic Expressions of Hope.” This live chalk art event occurred from July 8-11 at the center’s city and suburban sites. Artists affected by cancer created artwork to pay tribute to loved ones and celebrate cancer survivors.

Bell crafted her piece on July 9 in Zion. She honored her great-grandmother who succumbed to stomach cancer in 2016 at the age of 81. A cherished memory inspired her artwork: celebrating her great-grandmother’s final birthday alongside her nephew’s first.

Fox River Trolley Museum Seeks Event Participants

The Fox River Trolley Museum invites participants for its Military & American History Weekend on August 1-2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located at 365 S. La Fox St, South Elgin, the museum seeks reenactors from all eras of American history and various vintage vehicles, including 1970s Chicago police cars and a 1974 Bluesmobile.

Elgin Community College Secures State Grant

Elgin Community College received a $262,000 state grant for workforce readiness and economic development. This funding is part of Illinois’ Restore, Reinvest, Renew program. It aims to promote equity across Illinois communities, ensuring all residents can develop careers and lead fruitful lives.

Since 2021, the program has distributed over $290 million statewide.

Hanover Township’s Backpack Program

Hanover Township requests donations of new backpacks and school supplies for a distribution event from August 12-14, at the Astor Avenue Community Center in Hanover Park. Items needed include notebooks, paper, pencils, markers, crayons, and gift cards.

Carpentersville Habitat Project Faces Delay

The Habitat for Humanity project in Carpentersville is delayed until spring 2027. Originally scheduled to start earlier, cost increases have postponed the Carter Crossing development. Additional funding is required before construction begins.

The upcoming infrastructure work includes upgrading water and sewer systems. Once completed, home construction will start, with plans for seven homes per year over four years. This project will create 28 affordable homes, supported by the village’s collaboration.
