Paula Scanlan Supports Aryna Sabalenka’s Stance
Paula Scanlan, a women’s sports advocate, appeared on ‘Fox & Friends’ to commend Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1 women’s tennis player, for her vocal support of the World Tennis Association’s decision regarding biological males competing against women. Scanlan, who previously swam alongside transgender athlete Lia Thomas, also commented on Martina Navratilova’s criticism of Caitlin Clark’s stance, referring to it as a ‘bailout.’
Mystery Beverage Incident at the Cincinnati Open
American tennis player Amanda Anisimova found herself at the center of a social media buzz during her Round of 32 match at the Cincinnati Open. During the match against Alex Eala, a clip broadcasted on the Tennis Channel showed Anisimova sipping from a plastic cup hidden under a towel. Speculations rose as fans and viewers wondered if she was drinking beer, given the attempts to conceal it and the usual consumption of a mysterious beverage from a plastic cup.
Broadcasters Brett Haber and Lindsay Davenport added to the curiosity. Davenport suggested it could be apple cider, while Haber speculated without alleging anything specific, acknowledging it was an unusual sight for a player mid-match.
Clarifications from Broadcast Team
Amidst speculations, it was clarified by Brett Haber, using information from a courtside camera operator, that Anisimova had requested and received a Red Bull energy drink. This clarification debunked the entertaining, albeit incorrect, assumption of her drinking beer during the match. Anisimova emerged victorious with a 6-2 win in the final set, securing her place in the Round of 16.
The mix-up provided some amusing moments on social media, with fans playfully commenting on the incident. Despite the focus on an energy drink over what was initially suspected to be beer, the situation drew notable attention in the tennis community.
Amanda Anisimova is set to compete against Linda Noskova in her upcoming match on Wednesday.
