Orland Park Approves Northwestern Medicine’s New Cancer Center
The Orland Park Village Board has approved the development of a $275 million cancer office and parking structure. This project, associated with Northwestern Medicine, will expand the existing campus near Centennial Park.
Board member John Lawler expressed optimism about the facility’s benefits. ‘It’s going to be a valuable addition to the village,’ he said, highlighting the convenience for the aging population who will no longer need to travel downtown for treatment. ‘Receiving care here in Orland Park is a significant benefit for our community.’
Northwestern Medicine secured a substantial $225 million donation from the St. George Foundation. This donation is specifically for constructing the four-story office building and a 484-car parking garage. The foundation shares Northwestern’s goal to improve health services for residents in the southwest region.
The new facility will provide services such as infusion stations, diagnostic imaging, and radiation treatment. Though specific details remain pending, a hospital spokesperson mentioned further information will be shared in the coming weeks.
According to Koczwara, additional services will also be expanded in the current space. Northwestern is awaiting final state-level approvals, anticipated in September. They plan to initiate construction by the fall and aim to complete the project by 2029.
The Village Board approved some modifications for the project. The construction will be 30 feet instead of 50 feet from existing wetlands, and the building height is adjusted to 51 ½ feet. A landscape buffer is not required along the east side of the lot.
Mayor Jim Dodge supported these changes, describing them as ‘relatively minor’ and beneficial for encouraging development. He emphasized Orland Park’s goal to remain a recognized hub for excellent medical care, citing Northwestern’s new center and the University of Chicago Medical Center’s pending expansion as key contributions to this vision.
