Controversy Over Maine Senate Candidate Graham Platner

Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of “The View,” criticized the Democratic Party’s handling of the Maine Senate candidate vetting process. Graham Platner, the candidate in question, faces several scandals, including allegations of sexual abuse.

Sunny Hostin, another host of the show, stated that Platner should withdraw from the race to help Democrats potentially control the Senate. Hostin emphasized the importance of the Maine seat in the Democrats’ strategy. Griffin added, “The path to Dems taking the Senate always ran through Maine. They had six years to recruit against Susan Collins and vet a candidate.” She compared this to the recent nomination of Ken Paxton in Texas.

Griffin continued, speculating that political consultants might have known about issues in Platner’s past but ignored them. “There were whispers, now there’s reports, but people kept saying, ‘No, no, no, look away,’” she said.

Whoopi Goldberg noted that awareness of Platner’s issues existed among some, stating that people often vote for flawed candidates despite serious allegations.

The co-hosts have often debated Platner’s character. Hostin mentioned his negative traits but maintained she would support him for the greater cause of flipping the Senate. She criticized Republicans, saying, “They don’t fall in love. Democrats want to fall in love and not fall in line. The Republican Party’s bar is very low.” Hostin expressed that a similar candidate would be her choice if she lived in Maine, given the current political climate.
