Controversy Surrounds Michigan Senate Candidate’s Comments
Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate nominee from Michigan, recently caused online reactions with his comments about pregnancy. While speaking at a ‘Students vs. Billionaires’ town hall at Western Michigan University, he described a pregnant woman as ‘an adult’ or ‘juvenile human.’ This was in response to a pro-life student’s question about his support for progressive policies.
El-Sayed, known for advocating the codification of Roe v. Wade and supporting Planned Parenthood, addressed the student, saying, ‘I respect your position on protecting and empowering life. The question is, how do we best achieve that, and whose life gets affected in the process?’
He further explained, ‘When government prevents reproductive care, an adult or juvenile human becomes merely a carrying vehicle for a fetus that has never breathed air.’
Conservative critics on social media criticized El-Sayed’s wording, accusing him of using dehumanizing language.
In response, the Republican National Committee’s RNC Research posted, ‘Abdul El-Sayed won’t even say the word woman while talking about pregnancy.’
Other notable critics included Rich Sementa, producer of the Mark Levin Show, stating, ‘He won’t even say WOMAN. This is the Democrat Party in 2026.’
The super PAC Great Lakes Conservatives Fund added, ‘So much jargon to avoid saying women should have unrestricted abortion rights.’
National Review’s Rich Lowry and Grabien Media founder Tom Elliott also weighed in, criticizing the complex language used by El-Sayed.
Former GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon accused El-Sayed of altering perceptions of motherhood to undermine family structures, saying radicals like him use language to achieve goals against the American family.
Amid the upcoming November election, El-Sayed’s stances on abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, and gender-affirming care for minors have been widely debated. Although he rejects the label of socialism and identifies as a capitalist, his views have sparked controversy. El-Sayed will compete against Republican Mike Rogers for the Senate seat being vacated by Democratic Senator Gary Peters.
Fox News Digital has requested a comment from El-Sayed’s campaign.
