Fox Business contributor Katrina Campins discusses the backlash against Sydney Sweeney’s scenes in HBO’s ‘Euphoria’. These scenes have raised discussions due to their explicit nature. Additionally, Jessica Simpson reportedly flew first class to Hawaii, leaving her children in coach, as mentioned on ‘Jesse Watters Primetime’.
Adding to the controversy, Sydney Sweeney’s recent advertisement for the sports trading app Novig stirred a mix of reactions. The ad shows Sweeney posing with sports equipment covering her mostly nude body. This depiction led to criticisms from several professional female athletes.
“Think you know sports? Prove it. Novig is just sports. So, they wanted a show,” she states in the advertisement.
Among the critics were Australian Olympic gold medalist swimmer Ariarne Titmus, British sprinter Amy Hunt, and former American gymnast Gracie Kramer. They expressed their disapproval and concern about the portrayal of women in the ad.
Titmus voiced her frustration on Instagram, questioning the monetization and sexualization of women’s sports. Hunt highlighted her achievements in athletics, emphasizing hard work and dedication displayed by female athletes.
Kramer shared her experience in gymnastics, stressing the importance of being recognized for athletic abilities rather than physical appearance. She stated, “I’ve spent my entire life competing in a sport where female athletes have been oversexualized, reduced to our bodies, and forced to fight to be taken seriously for what we can actually do.”
In response to the criticism, Sydney Sweeney showcased ESPN magazine covers of athletes such as Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, and others posing without clothes, aiming to shift the narrative.
Fox News Digital contacted Sweeney’s representatives and the Novig app for comments. The situation recalls previous criticisms Sweeney faced, such as during her collaboration with American Eagle for a fall clothing campaign.
The discussion around Sweeney’s projects reflects ongoing debates about the portrayal of women in media and sports.
