A civil lawsuit has been filed against Cornell University and seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity. The plaintiff, a woman, alleges she was the victim of a ‘gang rape’ at the fraternity house in 2024.
On September 28, 2026, New York state prosecutors announced the reopening of an investigation into the alleged incident. This renewed attention follows the lawsuit filed earlier in the month, which gained national interest.
Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten confirmed on Monday that steps are being taken towards criminal prosecution of the seven accused individuals. The plan is to present the case before a grand jury, seeking to hold those responsible accountable under criminal law.
