Costco’s Rotisserie Chicken Chef Salad: A High-Protein Addition
Costco has introduced a new item in their food court menu, the Rotisserie Chicken Chef Salad, known for its high protein content. The salad includes 59 grams of protein and 840 calories. Priced at $7.99, it consists of rotisserie chicken, hard-boiled eggs, bacon bits, shredded cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and creamy peppercorn ranch dressing.
According to Jamie Lee McIntyre, a Florida-based registered dietitian nutritionist, it’s important to look beyond the high protein content when evaluating this salad. She highlights that while the salad contains good sources of protein like chicken and eggs, it may also be high in sodium, saturated fat, or calories.
“That’s just a nutrition attribute,” McIntyre mentions about protein. “A food can be high in protein but still be high in sodium, saturated fat, or calories.”
McIntyre advises that for many, the 840-calorie count might be excessive for a light meal. The salad offers nutritious components such as vegetables, but she emphasizes considering other nutritional aspects beyond protein.
Costco’s Chicken Caesar Salad is another protein-rich choice on the menu, providing 58 grams of protein. The Chicken Bake also offers 53 grams, making these items comparable alternatives for those seeking high protein.
Reaction to the Rotisserie Chicken Chef Salad is mixed. Some shoppers appreciate its flavor, while others feel the salad lacks enough lettuce or find the portions disproportionate. One Reddit user commented, “Tons of toppings, not enough lettuce. Salty for a salad. I wouldn’t buy it again.” Conversely, another user praised the dressing, writing, “I went back 2 days later to buy another. I’m not a salad person, but I love this dressing.”
Costco has not provided a comment about this menu item. Sadie Chafe from the Fox News Digital Lifestyle team reported on this update.
