Deebo Samuel Returns to the 49ers Amid Receiving Corps Concerns

The San Francisco 49ers’ receiving unit faced an early setback in their training camp due to concerns over Ricky Pearsall’s knee injury. This uncertainty prompted the team to seek assistance from a familiar face.

Former All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel has agreed to a one-year contract with the 49ers, valued at up to $7 million, according to a report by ESPN.

Samuel began his NFL career with the 49ers after they selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. During his first six years with the team, he was instrumental in helping them reach the Super Bowl on two occasions. In the 2021 season, Samuel achieved All-Pro status by amassing 1,770 yards from scrimmage and scoring 14 touchdowns.

In 2025, Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. During his stint with the Commanders, he recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and scored five touchdowns last season.

After becoming a free agent in March, Samuel now rejoins the 49ers to bolster their receiving lineup as Pearsall deals with his injury-related absence.
