Lee Greenwood, a prominent country music star, reflects on Dolly Parton’s life, legacy, and impact after her passing. Parton, who began from modest beginnings, rose to stardom and became a celebrated icon in country music. On ‘America Reports,’ Greenwood shared his memories of Parton and highlighted the tributes that followed news of her death.
Tributes from various figures, including Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, poured in after Parton passed away at the age of 80. Manning expressed gratitude for having known Parton, noting their Tennessee connection. He shared a photo on Instagram with Parton at a Vols game, saying, ‘We’ll miss you, Dolly. Tennessee won’t be the same without her.’
One memorable performance by Parton was at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, on November 18, 2023. Manning escorted her before she signed the Vols’ signature ‘Rocky Top’ song between the first and second quarters. She shared that the stadium was so loud she could barely hear herself during the performance.
Parton’s influence extended beyond the Vols games. Just days after, she performed at AT&T Stadium in Dallas during Thanksgiving. Dressed as a Cowboys cheerleader, she delivered several hits, including ‘Jolene,’ ‘9 to 5,’ and ‘We Are The Champions.’ Reflecting on her performance, Parton told USA TODAY that her desire to perform outweighed any fear.
Parton died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, with her nephew revealing the news on Instagram. She had been battling a health issue for months. Known for her philanthropic work, acting, and humanitarian efforts, Parton amassed numerous accolades, including 11 Grammy Awards and other significant recognitions. She was married to Carl Dean for nearly 60 years, keeping their relationship mostly private. Dean passed away in March 2025.
At her request, a private family service will be held, with donations encouraged for her Imagination Library instead of flowers.
