Earth, Wind & Fire had to cancel their San Francisco performance on Thursday evening because of a medical emergency involving one of the band members. This announcement came shortly before they were set to perform at the Chase Center.
“We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band,”
read a statement on the band’s social media. This forced them to reschedule the show with Lionel Richie, with a new date yet to be announced.
The band advised ticket holders to keep their tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled date. Refunds will be available at the point of purchase. The band apologized for the sudden change and expressed gratitude for fans’ understanding.
No further details about the medical situation have been disclosed.
Earth, Wind & Fire joined Richie for the ‘Sing A Song All Night Long Tour,’ which began in June. The tour covered several stops across North America, including Canada, and had just started the California segment.
Maurice White founded the band in Chicago around 1969. Key members during their classic era included Verdine White, Philip Bailey, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, Al McKay, Fred White, and Andrew Woolfolk. The band created a unique sound by blending funk, R&B, soul, jazz, gospel, rock, and pop.
Some of their popular hits include ‘September,’ ‘Shining Star,’ ‘Let’s Groove,’ ‘Boogie Wonderland,’ and ‘After the Love Has Gone.’
