Years after “The Sopranos” concluded, its cast gathered to mourn Vincent Pastore’s passing. He was laid to rest in New York, with family and friends in attendance. Steven Van Zandt, Pastore’s co-star, honored him by serving as a pallbearer. The casket bore an American flag, reflecting Pastore’s Navy service.
Pastore’s daughter paid tribute to him, describing him as “a giving person.” She expressed how he shared his good fortune with others, whether through tips or greeting law enforcement officers.
Pastore was remembered not just for his role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero. But also for his generosity and kindness.
Van Zandt shared that he kept in touch with Pastore until the end. He mentioned a recent call made just before Pastore’s passing, highlighting their close bond. Van Zandt emphasized Pastore’s uniqueness and the void his absence leaves.
Stephen Villano, Pastore’s close associate, remarked that Pastore differed significantly from the characters he portrayed. He highlighted Pastore’s commitment to helping others and his support for community initiatives.
Villano cited Pastore’s contributions to veterans, the NYPD, and various charities. He was a staunch supporter of efforts like St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and assisted with events for orphans and widows.
Pastore passed away on August 1. His manager, Robert Attermann, expressed his grief and celebrated Pastore’s contributions to the entertainment industry. He acknowledged Pastore’s widespread recognition but noted that those who knew him personally recognized a man of deeper substance.
Alongside “The Sopranos,” Pastore appeared in acclaimed shows such as “Blue Bloods,” “Law & Order,” and more. He was also in films like “Goodfellas” and “A Bronx Tale.” Attermann underlined Pastore’s passion for acting and his supportive nature with younger actors.
Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee. His work and generosity have left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
