The woman known as the ‘egg juror’ from Alex Murdaugh’s double-murder trial is pressing South Carolina authorities to release sealed records. These records concern allegations that a court official tampered with the jury.
Motion for Transparency
Myra Crosby, who was dismissed from the high-profile 2023 murder trial before deliberations, submitted a motion on May 18. She requests the South Carolina Supreme Court to remove protective orders on investigative files related to former Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca ‘Becky’ Hill. The filing emphasizes that transparency serves public interest and justice.

Crosby earned her nickname after asking if she could gather her eggs and purse before being dismissed, causing laughter in the courtroom.
Probe and Protective Orders
Sydney Solicitor Rick Hubbard recently acknowledged during a plea hearing for Hill that investigations were insufficient to charge Hill criminally with jury tampering. He stated, ‘We cannot get a conviction because we cannot prove that case beyond a reasonable doubt.’
The filing points to a January 2024 protective order, which initially favored public access but prioritized confidentiality to protect ongoing investigations related to Murdaugh’s appeal for a new trial.
Requests for Information
Crosby’s attorney, Joseph McCullough, revealed that his client filed multiple South Carolina Freedom of Information Act requests with several agencies seeking full investigative records. However, the Supreme Court’s protective order prevents SLED from releasing these files. Crosby asserts that those investigations are concluded, nullifying the protective order’s purpose.
Murdaugh’s defense is also lobbying for access. Attorney Dick Harpootlian disclosed their separate motion seeking the sealed records to aid ongoing civil litigation against Hill.
Harpootlian noted that the defense’s motion diverges from Crosby’s request due to their active litigation involving Hill.
Legal Motions and Allegations
Murdaugh’s defense claims Crosby’s removal was part of Hill’s broader tactic to direct jurors toward a guilty ruling. Crosby became notable nationally after her dismissal following a humorous moment regarding eggs and her purse.
Fox News Digital contacted the South Carolina attorney general’s office for comments regarding the ongoing legal motions.
