Enes Kanter Freedom, a former NBA player known for opposing transgender athletes in women’s sports, faced an unexpected turn during a game between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever. An argument with Chicago’s Natasha Cloud led to Freedom being removed from the arena by security.
Michael Alter, the majority owner of the Chicago Sky, announced that Freedom would no longer be allowed at Sky games. This decision followed the verbal altercation during Sunday’s game.
Freedom attended the game at Wintrust Arena, wearing a shirt stating, ‘WOMAN noun. adult human female.’ The confrontation began when Cloud approached him during a third-quarter timeout. Alter commented that reconsideration of the ban could occur if Freedom exhibits compliant behavior at future events.
‘As far as a lifetime ban, if someday he’s able to demonstrate he’s capable of being at a game and conducting himself in compliance with our rules and not be a threat to people, might we reconsider? I suppose it’s possible,’ Alter said.
Alter noted that he has not yet discussed with the league the possibility of extending the ban to other WNBA venues.
