Everton Blair Wins Special Election in Georgia’s 13th District
Residents of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District have chosen Everton Blair to complete the term of Rep. David Scott, who passed away in April. The Associated Press has projected Blair’s victory over Marcye Scott, daughter of the late congressman, in the special election held on Tuesday.
Blair, previously the chair of the Gwinnett County School Board, had secured the second position among five candidates in the July 28 nonpartisan special election. This result led to the runoff between Blair and Marcye Scott.
Despite his victory, Blair will serve only the remaining few months of Scott’s final term, which concludes in January. Blair had finished third in the Democratic primary held on May 19, preventing him from competing for a full two-year term.
In November, constituents will elect either Democratic state Rep. Jasmine Clark or Republican Jonathan Chavez to serve the upcoming full term starting in January.
The 13th District has historically leaned strongly Democratic. Rep. David Scott retained his seat in the 2024 election with approximately 72% of the vote. Similarly, then-Vice President Kamala Harris secured 71% of the district’s vote.
As the 2026 midterm elections approach in 70 days, voters prepare for a consequential decision.
