The initial games of the National League Division Series between the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers have delivered high-stakes playoff baseball. Drama, thrilling moments, and series-defining plays from two top teams in Major League Baseball have kept fans on the edge of their seats.
In the first game, William Contreras swung the momentum with a home run in the seventh inning. Ty France’s attempt to turn the tide in the ninth was thwarted by the stadium’s roof structure. The Brewers held on for a 3-2 win, setting the stage for a crucial game two for the Padres.
The second game was another nail-biter. Michael King outperformed Logan Henderson, and the Padres’ bullpen contained Milwaukee until the ninth inning. At a critical moment, Mason Miller lost control on the mound after three walks, allowing Jackson Chourio to hit a walk-off single, giving the Brewers a 2-0 series lead.
The Padres faced a challenge as Miller, having pitched 40 times on Sunday, was placed on the paternity list. However, Nick Pivetta started against Dustin May, providing an advantage for San Diego. Pivetta’s pitching, supported by Jackson Merrill’s defense, kept the Brewers scoreless initially.
In the game’s third inning, San Diego’s offense came alive. Samad Taylor singled and stole second base, setting up Fernando Tatis Jr. to score him with a grounder. Jackson Merrill then hit a single and stole second, allowing Manny Machado to drive in another run, lifting San Diego to a 2-0 lead.
Milwaukee responded in the fourth with Contreras smashing a home run, narrowing the score. Brewers manager Pat Murphy made quick pitching changes, removing May to bring in their strong bullpen. Milwaukee tied it 2-2 in the fifth, but Jake Cronenworth’s towering home run in the bottom half restored San Diego’s lead, 3-2.
The Padres added another run in the sixth, capitalizing on an error by Cooper Pratt. Though the Brewers trimmed the lead in the eighth, San Diego’s Michael King secured the victory using two resilient innings in relief. The Padres’ 4-3 win avoided a sweep and set the stage for a pivotal Game 4 at Petco Park.
This series has been a display of exceptional baseball, with standout pitching and clutch performances. Fans hope for a full five games, while Milwaukee aims to close it out sooner. Ian Miller reports for OutKick.
