Fatal Shooting of Elderly Woman in Auburn Gresham Neighborhood

Authorities reported that a 70-year-old woman was fatally shot on the city’s South Side following an argument that turned physical. The incident occurred inside a residence located in the 1900 block of West 83rd Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
According to Chicago police, the woman was with a 63-year-old man when a verbal altercation began at around 3:20 p.m. The conflict escalated, leading the man to produce a firearm and shoot the woman. She suffered gunshot wounds to her neck and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released. An autopsy was scheduled for the following day.
Police recovered one firearm from the scene, and the man involved in the incident was arrested. As of Wednesday night, charges were still pending against him. Investigators believe the shooting was domestic in nature, and detectives from the Calumet Area are conducting the investigation.
