FBI Investigates Explosive Device Incident in NYC
The FBI’s New York joint terrorism task force is actively investigating an incident involving an explosive device in Lower Manhattan. Law enforcement officers promptly detained a suspect outside the building that houses an FBI field office and New York immigration court.
Confirmed by two law enforcement sources to Fox News Digital, the suspect, identified as Andrew Arrabaca, allegedly deployed the incendiary device outside 26 Federal Plaza on Monday morning. Evidence suggests Arrabaca possessed materials critical of ICE at the time of the incident.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed through a statement on X that Arrabaca was apprehended shortly after the device was deployed. So far, two minor injuries have been reported. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force continues the investigation into this incident.
FBI New York field office Assistant Director in Charge, James Barnacle Jr., reported that Arrabaca possessed an unidentified liquid. He allegedly placed fireworks on top of it, which ignited a small fire. Initial accounts indicated involvement by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the arrest process.
Barnacle stated that a pellet gun was also found with the suspect. Two individuals, one federal employee and one civilian, sustained injuries but have since been treated and released.
The affected building in Lower Manhattan houses a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the incident, stating, “What occurred outside 26 Federal Plaza this morning was deeply disturbing. I’m relieved no one was seriously injured and that a suspect is in custody. My team is in touch with the NYPD and we will support the federal investigation. Our administration will continue to ensure that every New Yorker is safe in their city and hold accountable any who threaten that.”
