Fitness Influencer Encourages Movement Through Competition
Fitness influencer Mark Langowski, known as @bodybymark, recently hosted a pushup and plank contest in New York City to inspire people to get active. With nearly two million followers on Instagram, Langowski urged his audience to share their fitness routines.
Held at Washington Square Park on May 12, the event partnered with Oikos yogurt. Two winners, one male and one female, each took home $500 for performing the most pushups or holding a plank the longest.
Langowski told Fox News Digital that the goal was to promote strength and fitness across the city and beyond. He highlighted a man who completed 111 pushups during the competition, emphasizing the aim to get people moving.
Langowski believes key traits of a successful competitor include strength, humility, and confidence. During the event, some participants didn’t boast about their abilities. Others overestimated their skills but still performed well.
He sees pushups and planks as effective measures of fitness, along with basics like pull-ups, squats, and running, akin to elementary school fitness tests.
For beginners looking to improve, Langowski recommended consulting a trainer or someone knowledgeable. He advised easing into pushups, starting on your knees or against a wall, before moving to more challenging variations.
“Nobody begins by doing 111 pushups. Progress comes with time and effort,” he stated.
Alongside exercise, rest and a nutritious diet with adequate protein are essential for muscle growth.
Motivation, Langowski argued, is crucial for kickstarting a fitness journey. Starting with a walk requires no equipment, and exercises like squats and lunges can be done at home.
Langowski encourages individuals to begin their fitness path, suggesting they involve friends or trainers for support and safety.
