Authorities in Florida have arrested a man following the discovery of suspected human remains on a property in Marion County. This was part of an investigation into the disappearance of his father, according to law enforcement and an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital.
Disappearance Investigation
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies began looking into the missing person’s case of 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada on May 16. A family member reported concerns as Bahamon-Prada had not been seen since May 7. He resided in Dunnellon, sharing a home with his 25-year-old son, Andres Bahamon.
Evidence gathered during the investigation led detectives to suspect foul play, prompting them to treat the disappearance as a homicide case.
Evidence and Arrest
On Monday, Andres Bahamon was detained concerning his father’s disappearance. Initially, he informed deputies that he last saw his father on May 7, the day Andres Bahamon-Prada returned home and informed him that someone unknown would be picking him up. Bahamon-Prada’s silver 2007 Infiniti M35 vanished from the property days later and is still unaccounted for.
Further into the investigation, the victim’s mother shared her suspicions with investigators. She believed her son, Bahamon, was involved, after a conversation with him near a local store. According to the affidavit, she explained that Bahamon expressed his father was ‘dead and in hell,’ labeling him as ‘evil’ and a ‘junkie.’
Discoveries on Property
On May 18, deputies checked the Dunnellon property. They found evidence suggesting violence, including shattered glass doors with a bullet hole, shell casings, bloodstains, and disturbed dirt in the backyard.
Authorities also discovered that Bahamon allegedly sent his mother in Germany a disturbing photograph showing a deceased man by wooden steps at the property. The image matched Bahamon-Prada’s description, showing him lying motionless with a large red stain near his head and shirt.
Detectives secured a search warrant and uncovered a large rolled carpet buried at the site. Upon examination, they detected a decomposition odor. Suspected human remains were located inside the carpet, though further investigation is needed for positive identification.
Continued Investigation
Detectives eventually identified Andres Bahamon as a person of interest. He was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence related to the missing person’s investigation. The affidavit suggests Bahamon may have hidden or moved his father’s body to obstruct the inquiry into the potential homicide.
Efforts to locate the missing silver 2007 Infiniti M35 continue. Investigators believe this vehicle could hold vital evidence connected to the case.
