A dense fog obscured Navy Pier’s Fourth of July fireworks on Saturday night. The event promised to be the largest in the pier’s history, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Despite the conditions, the show proceeded, but viewers saw only colors through the fog.
Rain covered the area on Saturday. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 7 p.m. in Cook County. Navy Pier expressed their disappointment in a social media statement, acknowledging the fog’s impact on guests’ experience.
Navy Pier will continue free fireworks displays on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Labor Day. As a gesture, they are offering free Centennial Wheel rides on Wednesday nights starting at 6 p.m., extending through Labor Day.
