Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former television news anchor from St. Louis, has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of her mother in Kansas. She will be eligible for parole after 25 years, according to the ruling by a Sedgwick County District Court judge.
The sentencing followed a plea agreement in which Mock confessed to first-degree murder in the case.
On the morning of October 31, 2025, police found 80-year-old Anita Avers with multiple stab wounds in her Wichita, Kansas home. The residence was shared with Mock and her stepfather.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Mock made statements indicating she believed her mother was the devil and claimed to have killed her to “save herself.”
Her stepfather informed KAKE-TV about Mock’s diagnosis of mental illness and her struggle with delusions and depression. It was suggested she might have suffered from bipolar disorder, later considered to be schizoaffective disorder.
Despite these assertions, a judge declared Mock competent for trial in July. By August, she had entered a guilty plea for the charge of first-degree murder.
Prior to these events, Mock’s LinkedIn profile noted her transition to software sales after her career as a news anchor. Her roles included working at Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
